Patient testimonial: Tim L.

The entire UBC staff was caring.

While working as a delivery driver for Frito Lay in December of 2006, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident.  Initially, I was referred to UBC’s work program.  However, it was noted that I had significant right shoulder range-of-motion restrictions (the result of a torn rotator cuff).  Only after surgery in August of 2007 did my physician recommend UBC’s pain program.  Because I was skeptical about the benefits of a pain program, I told my doctor, “You don’t know what else to do with me, so you’re putting me out to pasture.”  Even before I could enter the pain program, though, it was recommended that I participate in eight weeks of physical and occupational therapy in order to build up my tolerances and improve my overall conditioning.

Before enrolling in UBC’s pain  program, I would describe myself as severely depressed and in a lot of pain.  I was unhappy, de-conditioned, hopeless, and my future was unknown.  After graduating from UBC, I am happier, in better physical condition, and have more strength and endurance.  Also, my depression and pain are a lot more manageable.

UBC has improved my quality of life.  I learned how to manage my pain, not be controlled by it, and now I am able to better pace my activities at home.  Another key reason this program was successful was that Dr. Tomski recommended craniosacral therapy for my headaches and dizziness in conjunction with the pain program.

My advice to new clients is:  find someone else in the program who is like-minded and who has similar goals as you, that way you can motivate each other.  I was blessed to have had someone in the program like that for me.

Coming to UBC was a great experience.  The entire UBC staff was caring and motivating and they pushed me to do my best.  Additionally, the therapists were open to ideas to personalize my program.  UBC is a vital part of healing and retraining injured people.
